Valtos 23 Isle of Lewis

Cliff Beach

Famous surf just a
10 minute walk away
23 Valtos is set within a traditional coastal, crofting community on the west coast of Lewis. The cottage is a two minute walk to the nearest beach, and has stunning views of the sea and sandy beaches from the kitchen window. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and sleeps six.

The Story

23 Valtos has been in the Robertson family since the 1960s, and is loved by all generations. We return every year ourselves to escape civilisation and the pressures of every day life. Many memories have been made, honeymoons, weddings and of course Hogmanay! However, the most special memories are the unplanned ones; such as the unexpected sighting of otters, or being surrounded by seals whilst kayaking. These are moments to treasure, and we would like you to experience them for yourself.

The Cottage

The cottage sleeps six, with one double, two twin bedrooms and two bathrooms (one shower, one bath). There is a cosy sitting room with open fire place, perfect for burning drift wood or, as the locals do peat. There are spectacular views from the kitchen table to pass the hours away. There is also ample parking and the occasional sheep outside the front door (sheep dependent on season). Facilities include:
  • Oil fired rayburn
  • Dishwasher
  • Electric cooker and hob
  • Fridge-freezer
  • Microwave
  • Washing machine
  • Indoor and outdoor drying facilities
  • Towels and linen provided
  • TV and DVD player
  • CD player and radio
  • Puzzles and boardgames
  • Secure bicycle storage
  • Pets welcome with prior arrangement
The view from the cottage

There is a wealth of history to explore. The Outer Hebrides has many ancient historical sites to visit such as, the Callanish stones, the oldest and the most famous standing circle in the world after Stonehenge. The Blackhouse village at Gearrannan is worth a visit to experience how a traditional crofting community would have lived. The site where the Uig chessmen were found is a fifteen minute drive from the cottage. There are also guided walks in the area with local RSPB members, as well as boat trips to see local marine life and the spectacular world heritage site of St Kilda.
